In the presence of the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, on Sunday morning, May 9, the celebration of Europe Day took place, which this year coincides with the 40th anniversary of Greece’s accession to the EU.
The celebrations are organized by the Attica region at the initiative of the European Commission Delegation to Greece, as mentioned in the official statement. In connection with the strengthening of measures to protect against the pandemic, the celebration was limited to the raising of the Greek flag and the flag of the European Union on the sacred rock of the Acropolis.
At the ceremony, the European Union was represented by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Shoinas, and the present was presented by representatives of the state, political and military leadership of the country.
