Lockdown: new areas marked with "red"

Which areas of Greece have become “dark red” and which – with a lower level of risk, is presented in a new map published by epidemiologists.

The municipality of Messolonga and the municipality of Visaltia, part of the Serres regional unit, have entered the “dark red” (strict isolation) since this morning.

At the same time, in the village of Kastania of the Municipality of Vissa (Orestiada district), due to the increased epidemiological burden, general isolation came into force, corresponding to that created on Kalymnos.

In particular, as epidemiologists said, Messolonghi has seen an aggressive exponential increase in the number of active cases in the past few days, which amounted to 233, and on April 27, +49, as noted by Deputy Minister of Civil Protection Nikos Hardalias during yesterday’s coronavirus briefing.

“The situation in Messolonghi and the surrounding areas, Agrinio and Aetolico, is very worrying because there is a wide dispersion of detected cases within the community,” said Mr. Hardalias. At the same time, he urged residents of both this area and Kalymnos to strictly observe the measures, since the situation was recognized as extremely dangerous.

Kalymnos is under general isolation until 06:00 am on May 17th. In connection with a particularly difficult epidemiological situation, schools at all levels will be closed, on the recommendation of an expert commission.

The picture is also troubling in the village of Kastania, in the municipality of Vissa, Mr. Hardalias warned, noting that in tests that took place on Thursday and Friday, the percentage of positive results exceeded 15%.
