Intermediate discounts in May, due to Easter and May Day, began on Wednesday May 5th and end on Saturday May 15th, while grocery stores may be open on Sunday May 9th (upon the request of business owners).
It is noted that on Sunday, May 9, hairdressers and beauty salons (hair removal, manicure, pedicure, etc.) also have the right to work.
Sunday May 9th is essentially the first Sunday of the mid-season spring discount season. The retail industry has high hopes for this sales period. Stores have announced big discounts, which in some cases reach 70%.
Trade associations remind consumers that, in addition to indicating the new price, the old one (usually strikethrough) should be on the price tags.
Particular attention should be paid to the accuracy of discount advertisements for the buyer, since in the event of violations (erroneous, inaccurate information), the penalties are very serious.
Each item (group of goods) must correspond to the declared discount. In the event of verification, store owners should be able to prove that the old price shown on the sign is correct.
Violators are punished with a fine of 0.5% of the annual turnover and not less than 5,000 euros. In case of repeated imposition of a fine for the same violation within 5 years, the amount of the fine increases to 3% of the annual turnover of a particular company.
