In the American town of Rigby (Idaho), a sixth grader came to school with … a pistol. She casually pulled him out of her school bag and opened fire on her peers, CNN reports.
Before the school teacher disarmed her, the girl managed to injure three people – two students and a school warden. The shooting began inside the school and continued in the courtyard. Fortunately, the victims escaped with minor injuries, and nothing threatens their lives. Steve Anderson, Jefferson County Sheriff, says:
“During the shooting, the teacher disarmed the schoolgirl and held her until the police arrested her.”
The motives for the aggressive behavior of the sixth grader have not yet been clarified. She is currently in custody. Mark Taylor, Jefferson County’s attorney, says she may be charged under three counts, including attempted murder.
The real scourge for the United States is such cases with the use of firearms. Each incident sparks a heated debate among the authorities about its sale and distribution, but the matter goes no further. According to the Gun Violence Archive, 43,000 people have died in gun killings and suicides in the past year alone.
