A meeting of the foreign ministers of the G7 countries opens in London, the US Secretary of State has also arrived for a “meeting with allies”, AFP reports.
The heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the G7 countries meet for the first time after the pandemic in full-time format, but with strict observance of all sanitary rules. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken was practically the first to arrive at the meeting in the capital of Great Britain, commenting on his visit as follows: “It’s nice to be among partners and allies again.”
The two-day discussions are devoted to addressing the most important issues on the agenda: countering the pandemic and preventing “global threats”. Dominic Raab, Blinken’s British counterpart, detailed:
“We are concerned, in particular, with what is happening on the border between Ukraine and Russia. We are also concerned about the use of chemical weapons, as was the case with Alexei Navalny, and his poisoning with the help of Novichok. This is a matter of our concern, since such an event goes beyond the topic of human rights, it is much more serious. Another aspect is everything related to cybersecurity, and here, too, Russian activity, like Chinese, is the subject of our careful observation, we take this factor into account when discussing with our allies. “
During the plenary sessions, the agenda of the G7 summit will also be discussed. Joe Biden plans to attend, this will be his first visit to Europe since his election.
