The Holy Fire will arrive in Greece on Holy Saturday at 18.00, at the airport “El. Venizelos ”(Athens) from Jerusalem, after which 12 planes will take him to the main cities of the country.
As noted by Deputy Foreign Minister Kostas Vlasis, he will go to the Holy Land to receive the Holy Fire and transport it to Greece. However, this year the procedures will differ from the previous ones, since, according to government sources, they will be carried out “with due humility and modesty, as required by the situation, and not with the honors of the head of state.”
The Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs pointed out: “I will go to Jerusalem and take part in the entire ritual of the descent of the Holy Fire, and we will receive the Holy Fire. I will be cured on Saturday morning from Athens. At about 3 o’clock the ritual of the descent of the Holy Fire will take place at the Holy Sepulcher, and around 6 we will return. “
According to the information, the Holy Fire will arrive in Greece on the Prime Minister’s plane, but upon his arrival in the country there will be no special ceremonies, red carpets and orchestras at the airport, as before.
“Upon arrival in Athens, 12 planes of the two airlines will fly out at their own expense and deliver the Holy Fire to Thessaloniki, Alexandroupoli, Ioannina and other cities of the country,” added Costas Vlasis.
Once a year, on the eve of Orthodox Easter, on Holy Saturday, for almost two thousand years, the Holy Fire descends in Jerusalem. Thousands of believers from all over the world gather to see this miracle.
