Easing travel ban: new hours from Holy Monday

The Greek government has officially announced the easing of quarantine measures related to the “curfew” on the holidays and the pre-holiday days of Easter, although it is noted that travel outside the prefecture is still prohibited.

As it became known, during Holy Week, movement will be allowed from 05:00 to 22:00, and from Easter Monday (May 3) – from 05:00 to 23:00. Travel from one municipality to another with code 6 is only allowed on weekends. The same applies to April 24 and 25, as well as Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday, May 1 and 2.

On weekdays, the rule of inter-municipal movement is applied only after appropriate justification. Otherwise, a fine of EUR 300 will be charged.

Nevertheless, the townspeople have already tuned in to the “holiday”, in connection with which a sharp increase in traffic was registered on the toll roads of Elefsina today, 24/04. 10,000 police officers carry out intensive checks, stopping cars one after another, the drivers of which must present a document confirming the legitimacy of the movement.

The queues of cars at many “exit” gates of Attica exceed one kilometer (!), While many were “turned back” because, as the inspectors found out, the citizens did not have the right to leave. And of course, an administrative fine of € 300 was imposed on them.

Many drivers use incredible excuses to drive into the village. It is noteworthy that one of them presented a document that indicated “assistance”. At the same time, a spit and other characteristic accessories for an Easter picnic lay in the trunk. Others said they “have evidence of movement, but because they are in the trunk it is difficult to show them.” The third claimed that he was taking his dog to the veterinarian in the Peloponnese.

According to ΛΑΣ, during the holidays, in parallel with ground services, helicopters and drones will control the situation from the air.
