Kyriakos Mitsotakis left open the opportunity to allow inter-municipal movement of citizens not only on weekends, but also on weekdays, and also answered the question about leaving the city for the village on Easter.
“It is much better to let people walk along the beach or go to the mountains of Attica, where there is a lot of space and there is practically no risk of transmitting the virus, than to allow mass crowds of people in the squares next door. I believe that these measures can be introduced, ”said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
The Prime Minister also left open the possibility that experts will propose to allow inter-municipal travel on weekdays. “If it works well on weekends, I think it can be done on weekdays as well,” said Mr. Mitsotakis.
When asked whether trips to the village would be allowed on Easter, he said that he could not give a concrete answer yet.
“It would be irresponsible of me to be responsible for the experts. Experts will tell us about this. We still have two weeks to see how the pandemic develops. Everyone, probably, would like to go to the village to visit their relatives on Easter. It will be seen … Let’s see how the epidemiological situation develops at that moment, ”the Prime Minister said.
Opening of cafes and restaurants
“The main focus is on this problem. When you need to drink coffee, you take off your mask. And this is fraught with a certain danger. Of course, restaurants and cafes, when they open, in the first stage will operate exclusively in the open air. I would venture to predict if you are interested in my personal opinion that this will not happen before Easter. Only after the holidays, “he said.
“We expected insulation to bring better results.”
Finally, regarding the effectiveness of the measures taken, the prime minister said the government expected better results, stressing that “if this restriction had not been introduced, the results would have been disastrous, including for the health care system.”
