UAE: Ukrainian consul visits girls arrested for scandalous photo shoot

The Ukrainian consul in Dubai paid a visit to the pre-trial detention center yesterday evening, said Oleg Nikolenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. The girls who took part in the shooting on the balcony in the nude face a fine and deportation.

According to the UNN news agency, in fact, Ukrainian citizens turned out to be not 11, but 12. According to the press secretary, the police officially announced reason for detention: “Violation of the norms of moral ethics and the dissemination of obscene photographs and videos on social networks.”

Nikolenko clarifies that “according to UAE legislation, the penalty for committing such an offense may be a fine of about USD 1,300, followed by deportation.” He also reports that the detained Ukrainian women are in jail, they are provided with food and have the right to receive medical assistance.

Recall, in an Islamic country, violation of public order, including nudity and “indecent behavior”, is punishable by imprisonment for up to 6 months and a fine of 5,000 dirhams (about 1,000 euros), Sky News reports. Sharing porn materials can lead to imprisonment and heavy fines, in which case the law takes into account Sharia law.
