Greece: extension of the entry permit for Russian citizens

In the Government Gazette on Saturday, a decree was published to extend the entry permit for 4,000 Russians per week until 6:00 am on April 19.

This is a joint decision of 7 Greek ministries to extend the previous decree, which is valid until April 5, 2021. It was passed on March 2 and increased the weekly number of permits from 500 to 4,000.

As before, while it is possible to enter Greece only through the country’s air gates in three cities, the planes take the airports of Athens, Heraklion and Thessaloniki. To visit Hellas, you must have with you: a negative test for COVID-19 (PCR) made 72 hours before arrival, a certificate in English with the traveler’s details, a completed PLF electronic form. You should be prepared for a random coronavirus test at a Greek airport.

The decree draws attention to the fact that passengers arriving in Greece, regardless of the country of departure (EU, Russia), must undergo a seven-day preventive quarantine at the place of temporary stay in the country, which is indicated in the PLF. Failure to comply with this requirement entails a fine of 5,000 euros, compliance with the regime is checked by the Greek authorities. An exception to this rule is persons arriving on a special mission.

Already in mid-May, Greece plans to remove the existing restrictions on tourists and accept all Russian citizens wishing to visit the country. Haris Theocharis, Minister of Tourism of Greece, in an interview with RIA Novosti said that the government plans to open the border on May 14 and even, perhaps, a little earlier, depending on the epidemiological situation.
