Pulmonology professor Nikolaos Tsanakis believes that as a result of self-testing for COVID-19, an increase in the number of new cases will be found, since many citizens have asymptomatic disease.
According to the expert, in the coming days, the actual number of cases of detection of infected people may approach 9,000. In particular, the professor, speaking at the Open, predicted that in the next 10-15 days, that is, until April 15-20, the number of COVID-19 cases will increase in the country.
The expert explained that with the help of self-testing, an increase of two or three times the figure that is available today will be revealed. “If we found 3,000 cases of coronavirus today, there would be 9,000 actual cases,” he said.
The professor explained that most of the self-test cases will be asymptomatic and will not put pressure on the Greek health system. “But we are interested in knowing about these cases because people who carry the virus need to be quarantined,” he added.
Regarding the AstraZeneca vaccine, Mr Tsanakis noted that citizens should ignore the confusion and news stories as there is no evidence that the vaccine is associated with episodes of thrombosis.
