Georgiadis: stores will close again if measures are not followed

Development and Investment Minister Adonis Georgiadis announced the upcoming retail opening from April 5, stressing that if the protection measures against coronavirus are not followed, the government’s decision will be canceled.

“I am absolutely sure that the world of business and commerce will thoroughly follow the measures, since it is in their interests,” the minister said on the SKY channel. “If the measures are not followed, the stores will close again. Citizens need to observe three things: an appointment to visit a store, three hours for shopping, sending an SMS is required. If this is not observed, we will have problems, ”said Mr. Georgiadis.

There is still a long way to go to normal store openings, he said. He added, among other things, that “vaccination must continue to create herd immunity.”

With regard to the opening of large shopping centers, the minister stressed that the first week of opening retail stores should “go well” and the government, together with epidemiologists, should ensure that everything is under control. Then next week the issue of opening large stores will be considered.

Summing up his speech, Mr. Georgiadis said that “The Ministry of Development will make sure to get the necessary support for the opening of the catering sector before Easter, as this industry has been hit hard by the pandemic.”
