Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergic and Infectious Diseases, sees no need to use the AstraZeneca vaccine, Reuters reports after an interview with a specialist.
Fauci said that, regardless of regulatory approval of the vaccine and given the lack of certainty at this time, he believes that the authorities should abandon the use of the vaccine developed by the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca. The infectious disease specialist believes that there are enough other vaccines in the country so that it can not be used.
Vaccines from Pfizer / BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson are currently approved in the United States.
Earlier it was reported that vaccines against the AstraZeneca coronavirus showed less than stated efficiency – by 3%. In the course of research, it was found that it saves from the symptomatic course of COVID-19 in 76% of cases, and not in 79%, as was previously thought. And the effectiveness in preventing severe cases of coronavirus that require hospitalization is still 100%, for patients over 65 years old – 85%.
