As a result of the actions of a suicide bomber in the Indonesian city of Makassar, who blew himself up near a Catholic church, 14 people were injured. According to local police, the suicide bomber himself was the victim of the attack, Reuters reported.
According to the initial information, there was only one perpetrator. However, later, law enforcement officials said that he had an accomplice, informs APE-MPE. At the moment, the police are not ready to name who is responsible for the apparent attack. The Anti-Terrorism Service is investigating the incident.
The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Indonesia urged citizens of the Russian Federation to refrain from any visit to crowded places:
Dear compatriots, in connection with the terrorist attack at the Christian church in Makassar, please ask the Russian citizens who are on [острове] Sulawesi (and everyone else too) stay calm, don’t go to crowded places, follow police orders.
Danny Pomanto, Mayor of Makassar, noted that the explosion that occurred today could lead to a large number of victims if the terrorist had chosen the main entrance to the temple as the place of his actions.
